Mediation is a constructive way of resolving disputes. These disputes may be financial, relating to children, or any other disputes with a family member.
We can offer mediation sessions at either our Bradford or Leeds offices. We can offer appointments on a Saturday or weekday evenings as this often works better for people.
We are trained to help you deal with disputes. We will meet with you both individually and provided your case is suitable for mediation, we will meet with you both together. We can offer shuttle mediation which means you do not have to be in the same room. In a mediation session we will help identify any issues you can’t agree on and help you to try and reach agreement on those issues.
Mediators are impartial and so we will not take sides or provide any advice , we are simply there to help facilitate a discussion. Therefore we would usually recommend that you obtain legal advice alongside the mediation process. We will guide you as to when this should happen.
At Apex Family Law we have mediators qualified to consult with children in mediation directly.
Since April 2011, there has been a requirement (with some exceptions) that anybody wanting to go to court on children or financial issues, should attend mediation to find out about mediation and other non-court options. So you may need to attend mediation before applying to the court.
Grandparents and/or other relatives may use the process of Mediation. You may wish to arrange contact with children where relationships have become strained. We can assist by arranging and facilitating discussions to allow you to reach mutually acceptable arrangements for the children.
